I bought a new green Tivoli Pot which has an enamel coating on steel inside. I love my Tivoli Pans and bought this one to make big batches of soup. However, when I got home I noticed that there is a small chip inside where the enamel coating has come off. I am not sure if its safe to use it for cooking- (incidently the terms of buying made it clear that I would not be able to return the pot to the store- they gave me an extra discount since the outside of the pan had a black spot). Please advise. |

If it is plain steel under enamel, which is likely, it is not good for brewing but fine for general cooking, just like a rolled steel wok. I would avoid long cooking of acid foods (tomato sauce, for example). If it says "base metal", no, you don't know what it is and it could leach into your food. |

Thanks Ellen! That helps a lot!!! I was looking at the tag on the pot and it says- "long-lasting, high quality enamel with heavy gauge carbon steel core...". I guess that makes it okay for quick cooking vegetables. Maybe also for making white rice and such...? |

I got the big green stock pot from Ross and the 2nd time I used it the bottom of the pot completely cracked (I heard it but thought it was my oil popping) and there were flakes of pot in my soup:( I'm pretty disappointed. |

I as well have had the same problem with my soup pot. First I got a little chip on the outside on the bottom and then a few weeks later I got 2 massive chips on the inside. I initially bought the pot to last me a year, while my wife and I have relocate so she can finish her school - To bad, so Sad. |

I think sometimes these get dropped or banged hard during handling, which makes them very vulnerable. Do not buy if any visible bangs, dents, chips. Also keep heat at medium high or lower, they do much better compared to high heat |
