Boiling pans dry
I have boiled a Farberware stainless steel, aluminum core saucepan dry - very dry. The exterior bottom has dark discolorations and the inner surface has odd ripple patterns - a lighter color than the rest. Only color, no ridges or pits. Scrubbing has had no effect at all. Is it safe to use the pan again? Is there something I can do to remedy this? (other than pay more attention in future)

This is a typical reaction to the burn. Stainless steel discolors permanently under high heat. Some people including me do not use them after- they never seem to cook as well, and are even more prone to scorching. But I do not know a "safety reason" why not...

Thanks,Ellen. I had some reservations about possible metal/core bonding problems or molecular changes due to very high heat. But at least I can still boil water in it, which will help.
