We are having a bbq at our house this weekend and are expecting about 70 people - about 55 adults and 15 children. We are grilling three kinds of brats and sausages. I also planned on grilling some hot dogs since some of the kids would prefer them. For side dishes, we are picking up potato salad, pasta salad, macaroni and cheese and pork and beans. I've already got the bean and mac and cheese. How much potato salad and pasta salad should I pick up? The store said 10 lbs. of each, however, I'm afraid that won't be enough (I saw the size of the container 10 lbs. would come in). Also, how much meat should I pick up? I was thinking 40 of each of the three brats and sausages. Will that be too many? Thanks for your input! |

I would say 20 to 25 pounds potato salad, 10 of pasta salad- you want about 1 gallon of sides for each 10 people, count as 60 people with that many kids. For a very generous amount, figure 10-12 ounces uncooked meats- about 40 pounds total- howvwer much that comes to depends on the size of the sausages, so weight is more reliable. Consider a marinated green bean salad, slaw, or some other green veggie thing- with 70 people you will probably have some diabetics or dieters who would like a no-carb side dish. Have a happy party. |
