I just purchased a stockpot (porcelain on steel)and it says not to use it on a glass cooktops. What would happen if I used it? |

Worst case scenario: the burner overheats trying to cope with the not quite flat bottom, the porcelain layer melts and it fuses to the cooktop. Not a pretty picture. |

I have a Kitchen Aid Self CleanThermal Convection Electric Range. The design is glass top with sealed metal burners. Last night I had 1 burner on the glass top & a roast in oven at 400 degrees. I hear a pop and found the glass top had shattered. It was safety glass so just a few pieces flew away, but obviously needs to be replaced. Can it be? What could have caused this? |

Yes, it can be replaced. It costs 2-500 for most, so see if it is in warranty. Thermal shock is usually covered for up to 5 years when everything else goes out at 1 or 2. |

A local appliance repair outfit will be able to tell you what brand and whether a new top is available. |
