I see ascorbic acid as an ingredient in Ellen's Dough Relaxer and Dough Enhancer. The only ascorbic acid I can find is in GNC Nutrition center and it comes mixed with Rose Hips. Any problem with this? And... can you substitute Citric Acid for Ascorbic Acid. Citric Acid is widely available. Thanks.... Pete |

ascorbic acid is just powdered vitamin c there are lots of brands. even at GNC. Don't waste the rose hips! You can even crush or powder any vitamin c tablets, if you already have some. It is quite different from citric acid or sour salt, used for flavoring and pickling. You're welcome. |

Here, Ellen is the dope on Ascorbic Acid.... After checking with GNC main office I find that their Vitamin C Crystals have only 3% Rose Hips... which calculates out to a mere 24 milligrams per Tablespoon of Relaxer... Insignificant. Vitamin C Tablets, on the otherhand are full of all sorts of fillers, stabilizers, inert ingerdients. Sorbital. Cornstarch. Magnesium Stearate. Silicone Dioxide. In fact to make a reasonable size tablet they have only 45% Ascorbic acid in them! So crushing Vitamin C tablets is not the way to go Incidently a pharmicist friend offered to order pure, USP Ascorbic Acid for me... but his price is no better than GNC Vitaminc C Crystals. Hope this info might inform others. Pete |
