I am cooking for a family of 4 and would like to buy a crockpot. I of course want room in the pot to add veggies. What size do I need? I def. want the pot to have a timer. I haven't found too many great reviews on any models. Rival and Cuisenart have complaints of burning foods due to the temp being to high. Your advice is appreciated. |

I have purchased both a 4 and a 6 for myself. If you are getting just 1, I recommend you get an oval 6 quart, so you can do larger roasts, chickens, etc. One option is the oval Nesco roaster with the fan in the top- it is good for actual roasting as well as slow cooking (190=low, 280-300=high). About 5 years ago, the crockpot folks increased the temps of both low and high about 20 degrees, so the older recipes overcook or burn if cooked for the old, longer times. |

Thank you so much for your advice. The fact about the change in temps between old and new pots explains quite a bit. I've ordered a pot and can't wait to start using it. |
