What potential problems can result from storing canned food (in cans) in an over heated garage? My friend buys food on sale and keeps it for an extended period in this manner. |

Serious loss of food quality is the main issue. Sometimes the cans degrade, especially with acid foods, which can actually result in leaks/ spoilage. # Prolonged storage over 75 degrees F can cause nutrient loss and storage over 100 degrees F can spoil the food. Date cans with a magic mark (date you bought it) on top of the can. Low-acid foods, meats and seafood should be consumed within 12 months. High-acid foods should be consumed within 18 months. |
