Rancid Olive oil smell from ceramic decanter

A few years ago I received an olive oil decanter. I washed it out and stored it, but now that I want to use it again, I cannot get rid of the rancid oil smell inside it. I soaked it overnight with liquid soap, put it through the dishwasher twice, etc.. to no avail.

What should I do to make it usable again.

08/10/10 		This is a tough clean, because some ceramic glazes are porous and let the old oil get in and stay in Try filling with liquid dishwasher detergent straight and letting it sit 24 hours. You can pour the detergent out and then use it in the dishwasher later. Use a scrub brush to scrub and clean the inside, then rinse well and sniff. Sometimes this works. I use cascade complete.
