If your soymilk is fully ready to make tofu, there should be separate white firm curds and a clear yellowish whey, if what drains off still looks like soymilk, you are not getting a full coagulation. So start there if the drainage is still milky.

Also, use several layers of cheesecloth to line your mold or colander, not just 1 or 2. You can also try coffee filters or any fine white 100% cotton material, but it will take a LONG time to drain. Good luck.

I also make my own soy milk and tofu at home. I got fed up with the high cost of cheesecloth and found a substitute that's durable and reuseable.

Go to your nearest chain auto supply store and look for a package of TurtleWax "Diaper Soft Towels". There's 12 in a package, each about a foot square. There's no polishing compound on them, they're just plain white cloth and are 2 layers thick for a bonus filtering.

Just line your colander or strainer and pour away. You can shake the okara into the waste basket and then rinse them and dry to use on your next batch.
