I was wondering what your opinion of a family style reception for 100-130. We would have a nibbling/appetizer table set up for before and through out the reception. The actual dinner would be served family style on each of the tables. |

I LOVE family style service, as long as the servers are apt and the menu and serving dishes are appropriate. You still need at least 1 server for each 2 tables to set up, stock, and clear after- |

What do YOU think would be the ideal meal for a family style dining? We were thinking of doing a Mexican style or tacos or maybe pasta. We are open to suggestions. Love your site. It is the most helpful site on the internet. |

Not tacos, they don't hold if premade, and too much passing with all the fillings. Mexican with enchiladas, beans rice, salad, fruit, tortillas, guacamole on the appetizer table, nice. Roast or fried chicken, mashed potatoes or rice, gravy, sweet potato casserole and 2-3 veggies, biscuits, very traditional. The main thing is, about 5-6 plated and dishes and things in pieces. |

What amounts of the Mexican one would you recommend for 130 people for 4PM wedding? |

For a 4:30-9PM does it need to be full dinner portions?

I was also curious if you think the best way for this menu would be to do it family style or buffet? |

I would do a 9x13 of cheese (red tortillas would be lovely), another of beef for each table of 8-10. I like the rest of the menu but would add a green vegetable, and have a nopalitos or avocado salad with the chopped lettuce salad, and the tortillas. I might add tamales. Either family or buffet would be OK, but the service needs are different. You would need 3-4 serving lines. |
