I have owned a whirlpool black smooth top and loved it. For My new home I found a Frigidaire Gallery model convection oven with a white top. Everyone is telling me to take it back and get black as the white tends to stain by turning brown from the heat and the brown cannot be cleaned off. Anyone who has had white tops please let me know if you experienced the brown stains that would not come off.

I bought a glass/ceramic cooktop stove last fall. At first I hated it because could not clean it easy. Didnt know what I was doing wrong. Spoke to other people in my office. I had been given but hadnt tried some stuff from when I bought it. I have a GE stove but use Whirlpool kit which has what is called "Protectant" I bought more of it from the Whirlpool website. I think that is how it is spelled. After you clean the glass top you but this stuff on and it is like a waxy sealant. The spills just wipe right off or if stuff burned of comes off with the appropriate scrubber easy. You have to put the sealant on once a week. Now I see the stove is easy to clean like they are supposed to be

Please tell me you've found a solution for the tragic mistake of allowing aluminum foil to melt inside your poreclain enameled Wolf oven?? ANY help would be appreciated! Of course, NOW I read the warning labels in the manual. Hellp!

OH, no! Basically a glass metal fusion, and in a beautiful Wolf oven, too! Some have a removable bottom that can be replaced. Other than that, I don't know; maybe one of our readers can help.

just got a ceramic cook top and was wondering if i can use my cast iron skillets on this type of surface?

Teresa, if your iron pans have smooth, flat bottoms, they should work. If they have the ring around the bottom, they won't- it looks tiny about 1/16 of an inch, but these stoves work by conduction and to conduct the heat they have to make complete contact. If they don't, the best case scenario is very low heat in the pan, the worst case is, the coil keeps getting hotter and hotter to the cut off level, the pan is still not hot enough and after repeated uses, the coil burns out, requiriing an expensive repair.

Does anyone know how hot a ceramic cook top gets?

I'm asking because I have cats and in the past I leave the pan on the stove till the top cools, just in case some gets nosy and jumps up, they move fast, to protect their feet. I've purchase some of the silicone pads, rated up to 500 degrees, that I would like to put on the burners once I take the pots off of the stove; but I don't have any idea how hot the tops get's on a high setting, can you help? thanks in advance, button

I have been reading many articles about ceramic cook tops. I haven't found any information about what can be when just 1 (one) of the ceramic cooking sub surfaces "burns out". Can they be replaced one by one like a coil on a conventional electric range, or must the entire cook top surface be replaced??

button, you might consider something like cookie racks that do not touch the burneers. You are right to be concerned about the kitties.

Stan, the burners are under the glass top. not built into it, and on most stoves can be replaced individually.

Does anyone have experience with a ceramic GAS cook top? I am trying to find one in white with BLACK grates. They all seem to come with grey grates. Also need to know how they compare for cleanign etc to enamel/porcelain

I have a black ceramic cook top stove. I was making jame and it boiled over and is now baked on to the burner. I have tried every cleaner I can think of but it won't come off. Any suggestions

You did the razor thing?

Yes I did the razor thing at the time it happened to get the worst of it off, but there are still 2 black stains on the one burner that I cannot get off. They almost feel like they are baked into the top as they are smooth to the touch with the burner.

I didn't know if you knew of any other things that I could try.

There are three threads on this topic, one in the archive, Maas metal polish is one recommended by many readers.

Water boiled out of the pan and my husband used a "miracle cloth" to wipe up the water while the burner was on. Big mistake! It looks like the cloth fibers are burned into the cook top. The surface is rough feeling and very discolored. The razor thing does not work and the cook top cleaning stuff isn't working either. Is there something else to try or do I have to get another cook top surface? Thanks in advance for any info! Deb

This is bad, it actually fuses. You can TRY heating up the burner and then razoting, be VERT careful, and bo guarantwws...

If it does not expose a burner, you can try an auto engine (heat resistant) epoxy as a glue/filler, which can be shaped and sanded. If it approaches a burner, the top should be replaced, and do not use the burner affected.
