Anyone know where I can purchase some of the Vision or Visionware cookware??
Paul Bell

Hi, I just found this site, read the thread on metal utensils.

I began collecting Visions a few months ago, I've been hitting the thrift stores, like Goodwill and Salvation Army. Yesterday I found two of the larger sauce pans, with lids, and previously I had found a smaller sauce pan with lid, two small and a medium frying pans (no lids for the frying pans).

So, my suggestion, aside from eBay, is check the local thrift shops. You never know what you'll find there.

BTW, I have a friend who has had Visions for years, he can be quite hard on cookware, but he's had no problem with it.

I can see that i will need to do some searching too. Fortunatly when I buy things that I like I buy 2 or 3 of them, so in the past I did a good thing. But I messed up on a few things like the very large Visonware pots, and a few have been broken and finding them turns out to be very hard. I love that stuff and never did understand why they stopped making it. You can use a pot every day for years, burn stuff in it over and over, even leaving forgetting to turn the burner off over night. All you need to do is use a srub pad and it is back to looking like it did the day you bought it. No other cookware will go that, and the lack of repeat sales may be a reason that it was discontinued? :)

I'm in the same situation: Broke two Visionware pots and now cannot find any store that sells them.

One of the reasons that the manufacturer discontinued production, I've heard, is that the U.S. government told the manufacturer to stop making them. Apparently, recreational-drug makers of metaphetamines, acids, etc., used to concoct and cook their drugs (made with a wide variety of corrosive chemicals) in large quantities using VisionWare pots, and then they used CorningWare after VisionWare was discontinued. You may notice that, currently, the manufacturer of CorningWare states and stamps on the bottom of the Corning pots that they cannot be used on stovetop (they can be used in microwaves, ovens, dishwashers --- just not stovetops). VisionWare was the perfect tool for the drug makers in their home kitchens because they are corrosion-resistant unlike the metal pots, and they're much for resistant to abuses than the fragile chemistry sets normally used in laboratories.

One of the good replacement for VisionWare may be smoth-surface clay/stone pots found in Chinese and Asian supermarkets. These pots are even more resistant to breakage than VisionWare; they're also cheaper than VisionWare used to be. One can acquire several large pots for less than $20-$30 total. They're made in Taiwan, China, and Japan.

I called the visionware owner, now world kitchen, customer service. they said they stopped making it because it didn't sell, not because of the breakage (?). They closed the plant in WVA and shipped the remaining pots and frying pans, no lids, to the world kitchen outlets. This remaining stock was on clearance during the summer 03. I would try the outlets, the one in LA at the Citadel had alot of it in late August. They will ship it, but it could break. Try the world kitchen website and calling the CA outlets. Otherwise I'd try ebay.

I had no idea that Vision ware was discontinued and asked for a set for Christmas from my sister. I sure was saddened and disappointed when she said she could not find it anywhere...I am Chemically Sensitive to many things and cannot use other metal pots and pans for fear of it leaching into the food...I currently only have 2 sauce pans left but I think they may be the cranberry ones...Someone above mentioned that those contain teflon? Does anyone know anything about this? As teflon is bad for me too and will also kill pet birds from what I have heard. Thanks

If you think you've got problems, try finding Vision cookware in France! The other day I dropped my trusty pot as I took it out of the MW oven; it broke, and that hurt me far more than the burn I got on my (admittedly bare) foot. I'm heartbroken (if a heart can break with a pot).
Doesn't anyone know the President of Corning Glass? It is incredible that such a fine product be discontinued!

I have all but one vision pot(in a box). If I could send pictures of my husbands arm where a cool unused pot severed his radial artery and all the nerves and tendons of his right hand, leaving him with no feeling or use in it, you might reconsider buying this product. It was pulled from the stores in Canada and sent back to world kitchen. I too, used to love them, but my husbands' injuries and constant pain(and lifetime of medications) are a sad reminder of how dangerous they can be. The pots had never been mistreated in anyway. I will not sell the remaining ones because I could never live with myself if this injury happened to the person I sold them to. I won't even throw them out, because obviously people will go to extremes to find them. Please be extra careful if you insist on using them.
ellen

04/24/04
Mickey, thank you! I hope your dear one has a remarkable healing so he can at least be free from pain.

I have posted these dangers on the othe visionware threads, but I see not on this one. So I will say it again:

VISIONWARE for stovetop use is DANGEROUS. Please do not use it or buy it!

04/27/04
Ellen,
I actually disagree with you on the stovetop use issue. I've had vision cookware for over 20 years, and just yesterday broke the 4.5L Dutch Oven in the sink (slipped out of my hands while washing). It didn't shatter, just cracked.
This cookware is intended for use on smooth top stoves (I have an original Corning cooktop with manuals that recommends them), but maybe shouldn't be used on an electric open element or gas type open flame burner, although I have used them on electric coil type elements also. As far as the probability of getting cut from broken glass, well you have the same problem with cookware employing glass lids. If you are reasonably careful, this cookware is outstanding.
I will definitely be trying to replace my dutch oven ASAP.
Bob

04/28/04
Hi, Bob,
Thanks for the historical info on the Corning cooktop. You might be interested in the historical info on the exploding Visionware. It is not the result of severe abuse and is not an urban myth.
When all the dicussion on visionware started on my site- there have been humdreds of emails- I got serious about the research. I have personally read the Federal product safety reports detailing crippling injuries that occurred when the stovetop pots exploded or shattered both in use and while sitting unused (one was sitting in a dish drainer).

This wasn't cracking or breaking, as might occur with labware; it was a disaster with many small pieces of flying glass. It was clear that while the vast majority of correctly used Visions stoveware was safe, some exploded violently and unpredictanly.
I really liked my Visionware dutch oven for boiling herbs, but I don;t use it any more, and I did NOT give it away, either. Everyone gets to make her or his own decision about risk, but I can't recommend a product that has a real risk of permanent handicap when there are some alternatives. Be safe- Ellen

PS I think some manufacturer is missing a nig market for an inert stove top cookware.

Is the rumor spread by cookware sales representatives that chemicals used to color the glass in visionware can be released during cooking and be toxic?
ellen

10/19/04
For heaven's sake, toxic compared to what? Aluminum? The chromium in stainless steel? Don't buy from cookware sales reps unless they are a relative and you want to contribute to their college fund. Top quality cookware is available at much lower prices through factory outlet malls, discounters such as Ross or especially Tuesday Morning. I don't recommend sets anyway, you need to buy the pots that fit your family size and cooking style. Ellen

Hi Ellen,

You say there are alternatives to the Visionware, what are they? I'm very sensitive to so many chemicals and such, and over the years I've been eliminating all the factors that I believe have been adversely affecting my health. I often eat with wooden spoons, but still haven't as yet eliminated teflon pans. Sort of like ordering a diet Dr. Pepper with your cheeseburger, LOL ;)

Like many who use glass cookware, I also thought it was much healthier than metal. I think you mentioned clay pots. I have a pot that I suppose would be considered clay that I had used in my pressure cooker, but it doesn't have a handle on it. It's more of a casserole type of pot. I haven't been using it, because I got rid of my pressure cooker. So where do you get those clay pots and pans?

Namaste,
Lorna

I have just searched high and low in Thrift shops in Canada to replace the Visionware pots that have broken on us over the years. It was really not difficult. I have been able to replace everything and more. Visonware is outstanding.

I find the idea that Visonware is dangerous almost hysterical. We have cooked with Visonware daily for over a decade without any problem except the cracking which is a major drawback. However, given the clear health benefits, this is an easy compromise to accept.

All this on an electric stove.

I called Corningware(World Kitchens) today at 1-800-999-3436, because I, too, am desperately trying to obtain Visions Cookware for stovetop use. Like many of you I am sensitive to metals because of exposure to mercury. I have never had a problem with my pans cracking or breaking. If you're still of the opinion that metal doesn't get into the food we cook, try wiping the excess grease off a baking sheet after making cookies or french fries. The lovely gray color on the paper towel is a pretty good indicator.

The customer service representative informed me that Corning has no plans to start to produce Visions Cookware again. When I asked why, she indicated that it was due to lack of customer interest. I referred her to this website, noting that many people are still trying to
purchase this product. If you'd like to write a letter to the company asking them to please bring back the Visions line, send letters to: World Kitchens, PO BOX 7369, Endicott, NY 13760 Attention: Customer Service.
Maybe if we all write them, they'll consider bringing back this non-toxic cookware.

Margot

Seems like someone might still be making them., since Vermont Country Kitchens is carrying a 2.5 liter pot. World Kitchens told me they were "sold to France".

A year ago, I saw some that appeared to be new in packaging, in a department store in Guatemala City (Cemaco Las Proceres). My heart leapt, but then it only seemed to be little pieces. I'm looking for larger pieces.

Hi, Joyce,

Although the Visionware was originally recommended for the glass top stoves, the manufacturers do not suggest it any more. You can sell it to one of the other readers, but I am recommending that people not use it, do to the well documented, though rare, exploding pan problem....

I just called the corning ware number to find out how to use my new stovetop corning ware.
you are not to use it on the stove at hight heat only meduim tempatures. The lady I spoke with stated that stoped making them five years ago becuase of lack of intrest from the consumer. The resaon I called as because of the information above... to make sure it was safe to use... I'm only comenting on the Corning ware product. She assured me it was safe. I have also provided her with the location of were to direct there customers.

In my opption , I would not by the vision ware product because of the email of the ladies husbands hand. You can replace a pot but not a arm. In addition if it broke why would you want an other one. I just have visions of glass everywhere. Just my thoughts.

I am looking for a 5L Vision Stock Pot preferably in amber. I have the lid but would be interested in pot and lid if available. Thanks.

I've read all the conflicting comments posted as of today's date and am thoroughly confused. Wanting to find an alternative to teflon-coated cookware, I found, and bought (at a thrift store!), a smallish frypan with the markings: "Vision Corning France" on the handle. I plan to try it in spite of the well-intentioned warnings; however, can anyone please advise whether it is necessary to use a buffer between the flypan and the coil of my electric range, as I used to do with Pyrex or a Corningware coffee pot? Thanks in advance for your input.

just foud some Corning Visions pans/pots in a recycle bin. It appears threy have a coating on the inside-what is this, Teflon. Is it safe? There apears to be a few minor scratches here and there and its amber colored. Can one determine the age of this product/ Is that even necc. There were four pieces and I would like to use these. Any comments or suggestions?

On 7/26 I asked a question and, not having gotten any response, I did try the 800 number cited above. A very pleasant, helpful person advised that Vision is designed for use in the oven or on stovetop (the latter without a "diffuser," as she called it) and--with normal, commonsense use--will not crack, explode, whatever. So, decide for yourselves, as I have. FYI.

My bulletin board was clobbered by online gambling spam on July 22 and it has taken almost 2 weeks to get my end back up. Some threads, including this one will have to be archived. So sorry!
