Luau BBQ

I'm planning a luau for my son's first birthday and have NO idea how much meat to buy. We are planning on doing pulled pork, chicken & pineapple kabobs (using chicken breast) and will have hot dogs as well. We have 42 adults and 10 little kids (under 5). We'll also have rice, macaroni salad and asian slaw as sides.

Aloha!

There are a few other luau threads on this site, use the search this site link for some extra ideas.

If you just treat this as 50, you will have plenty, some left.

pulled pork - 10 pounds boneless
slider size rolls are great for little hands and adults can have 2 or 3
chicken & pineapple kabobs (using chicken breast)- 10-12 pounds
hot dogs- how about Spam, maybe Spam sushi instead? very traditional in Hawaii, and no choking hazard for small children. Check this site:
allrecipes.com/recipes/usa-regional-and-ethnic/west-coast/hawaii/

For Hawaiian twists on several of you dishes.

rice, 4 pounds dry
macaroni salad, 3 pounds dry pasta
Asian slaw, 9 pounds veggies

Fruit trays are almost essential with this!

Happy birthday baby.

One more question - what cut of pork do you suggest? Pork Loin? And is that 10 lbs cooked or raw? Thanks again!!

For pulled pork I like shoulder, and that is 10 pounds raw boneless for sandwiches, which is about 12 pounds bone in.
