Calaphon and glass top electric stoves

11/02/05 		I was given a gift of Simply Calaphon anondized double burner grill pan. The bottom has wide rounded ridges like the grill top part. Can I use this on my stove without damaging it? I would appreciate any advice.

11/02/05 		I have one, I turn it over on my gas range to use either side, but use the grill most. The only disadvantage to using both sides is, the heat takes off some of the seasoning, meaning things are more prone to stick. So most often, I use this for grilling and my teflon griddle for pancakes.

11/03/05 		If you have a smooth top range, remember, you have to use it only flat side down; and if there is a rim so the center is raised, don't use it on your smooth top- you can get a hotplate-

01/03/06 		I searched and searched for a griddle to use on my bridge burner. I have a thermador glass top stove. I finally found one with a perfectly smooth bottom. It, too, was calphalon. However, when it heats up, the bottom "rounds" and doesn't have full contact with the stove! Very annoying after all the time and research to find just the right griddle. I also have a large, smooth bottom calphalon "saucier" and the same thing happens. These pans were recommended as being good for glass top stove and ARE NOT. My main cookware, which I researched and purchased in '02 when we started with the glass top is Scanpan. There is a heavy disk on the bottom of each pan, and I believe it is made specifically for glass tops. It is non-stick and reliable. They don't make a griddle, though!

10/21/06 		The glass cracked on my KitchenAid stove. The Whirlpool repair man quoted $750 to fix it. I called KitchenAid directly and ordered the part through them for $140. The Whirlpool guy said it was a ~$500 part. The burners worked fine and I was able to install the glass myself, it was nothing more than a couple screws to open up the trim (which they wanted to charge $140 in labor costs). Don't accept the first estimate you get as these people clearly overcharge given the opportunity.
