Hello Ellen. Absolutely love your site. I am planning my daughters wedding reception. It will be for 150 people at 1pm. (June 2006) My menu consists of chicken salad on croissants, potato salad, coleslaw, pasta salad, mixed fruit, broccoli/cauliflower salad and baked beans. (buffet style) I have 2 questions. Since this is a no alcohol/no dancing reception and we are having lots of children would it be alright to serve potato chips and dip with this menu? My second question is, I need a suggestion for an appetizer. I would like some type of individual appetizer for each person to eat while pictures are being taken. Whatever the appetizer is must be made and plated the day before. Also, if you have any changes/suggestions to my menu I'd love to hear them. (I have catered for 150 people before) Thank you very much for your help.

It would be perfectly correct to have chips and dip, and if you add a crockpot of queso even the grownups will go after it. You might consider a segue into your plated appetizer: what about a little plate of 7 layer texmex dip with a handful of Fritos Scoops or tortilla chips? It would suit the level of formality and decrease the appetit fourses for the main meal- people will be hungry by 1 PM- and doesn't spill easily.

If you are willing to keep track of what you prepared and what you used and send the info, people here are ALWAYS interested in real life experiences for this size group.
