I ma having a valentines party and am clueless about how much food/appetizers I should have for people. Since the party starts at 10, I figure most people will be more interested in drinking (and our friends are scotch/vodka drinkers). I was thinking of doing food for like 25-30 people. Please advise on quantities. I am doing a choc. fondue fountain 4lbs choc/how many lbs of strawberries? Appetizer wise = cheese/bread platter and was thinking of 250 canapes. Please advise. I am freaking out. I have ordered 2 cases of red wine, 1 white, 1 champagne and 4-5 bottles each of vodka, whiskey, gin. I would appreciate any insight.

Anna, a party for 25 is a simple thing. There are very specific guidelines for appetizer and beverage quantities in the Big Pots planning section, including alcohol, and read the cautions about your legal liability as the host of a party at which alcohol is served. This is WAY too much liquor for a late night party this size.

You want about 6 items of appetizers per person for the first hour and 4-6 items per person for each additional hour- you don't incidate how long the party will go on. So it sounds like you have plenty of food planned.

You want 4-5 piueces of fruit, cake and/or marxhmallows , or large stick pretzels, for the chocolate fountain.

That's 4-5 pieces total per person.
