I puchased raw unhulled sesame seeds but now find that I need hulled sesame seeds. Is there a way to hull them? I want to make tahini for hummus. If I soak the seeds in warm water and whey, will it cause the hulls to come loose from the seeds? |

Don't try to hull them. When you grind the seeds with the hulls on it is called sesame butter instead of tahini, and it makes great hummus. You can lightly toast the seeds in a dry frying pan right before grinding for even richer flavor, They can be ground in a blender or spice ginder, if you want smoother, grind in small amounts as much as you can dry, then add some of the beans cooking liquid and grind further. |
