I have recently heard that Corning is discontinuing production on its Visions line of stovetop cookware.

Is anybody familiar with another manufacturer of affordable, widely available glass cookware?

Thanks.

Hi, Peter,

Sorry to say, I was expecting that; glass cookware is a bit challenging t o get the hang of.

Anyway, we shall simply have to do what got chemex and pyrex started and go back to buying labware. The original cost is pretty high, but I have some ceramic labware in my kitchen that is over 40 years old and still going strong.

In the meantime, it will be in the corning outlets for some time after it disappears from the stores; it is not too expensive at the outlets- consider stocking up a little-

Keep on cooking, Ellen

Yard or lawn sales or thrift shops are great places to find pyrex or visions cookware. Just take them home and wash in your dishwasher and they are almost as good as new.

Ellen,
What a refreshing site you have!
I am looking for a WIRE heat diffuser for stove top cooking in glass. I've seen diffusers that are large and have handles. That's not what I want. The one I want is sort of star-shaped and does not obscure the whole top of the burner -- and is thin wire. They used to come with glass coffee pots, and were also hanging in gadget sections. No more!
Can you help?
Thanks. Joyce

I have a few pieces of Visions cookware from about 1987 that have never been used, if anyone is interested. They're still in their original boxes (though they've been stored). I have a 7" skillet, a 10" covered skillet, and a covered double boiler. I'd be happy to ship them to anyone - and would only need to cover the postage/shipping. They are the brownish variety.

Hello to all...

I recently acquired a white, porcelain coated,
cast-iron, 10" frying pan, that says:
"COPCO; Michael Lax Design; Denmark" on the
bottom.

Question: What was the manufacturers
purpose, or, what was the original design
intended for?

Could this possibly be the perfect frying
pan for fish?

My wife has some Pyrex cassarole dishes, 1 qt, 2 qt etc. My question is can you bake with these with the glass lids on? I had a recipe, I was trying. I am no cook, and this recipe said to cover. I was afraid to use her lid, so I used tin foil. The lid would have been cleaner...LOL....any answers?

kathy- yes, there are well documented incidents. They are rare, but not myths.

Edward- Yes, you can cook the lids, Good for you trying something new!
