Hello Ellen,
I am a beginner with cooking/baking thermometers.
I saw this thermometer selling and labelled as 'deep fry thermometer'with needle point and the nail thin metal stick design.
Instead of 50deg to 550deg which usually for meat thermometer, but this deep fry thermometer I saw starts from 20deg to about 550deg, can I use this as candy thermometer too?
Can I also use deep fry thermometer in the oven when baking poultry?
Thank you.

The issiue for using as meat thermometers are two: 1)what the face is made of- many are plastic that does not hold up in the oven. You can take the meat out, slide it in then remove it, but don't leave it in.
2)Meat thermometers usually obly go to around 200, because you need to be able to tell the difference between 130 and 135.
So you could try it, but fon't leave it in the oven.
