Plum Pudding Sauce

Back in the 50s Mom used to buy Cross & Blackwell Plum Pudding and she made a creamy sauce to pour over it. She called it hard sauce, but it contained no alcohol. I have tried the recipe on the can and have read other recipes, but nothing seems right. Do you have any recipies? Thanks.

Hard sauce is made with whiskey or rum, so I do not know what your mom was making. There is a good recipe in the older JOy of Cooking called foamy sauce that is nice with plum pudding. Did your mom use eggs? Butter? Cream?

Thanks Ellen. Unfortunately, when Mom cooked us kids were not allowed in the kitchen so I have no idea what she used. Is the a website where I can find the recipe you refer to? Thanks.

OK, can you describe it? For example did it pour or was it spooned? Buttery? texture toward whip cream or oward sour cream?
