Different ideas?

Hi Ellen

I will be having my son's 3rd birthday party in August (always thinking ahead). But we usually have 50-60 people attend (big family). I want to do something different than the usual burgers, brats and hot dog thing. I think by August everyone is sick of those items. I was thinking of doing a taco/nacho bar or doing shredded pork sandwiches.(have a great recipe for that) Do you have any other ideas that might be good? I would like to make this easier for me with having all of this food. I also thought about ordering hot roast beef/turkey meat from a place near by but that might be costly too. Any suggestions?

Also for the pork, I have a recipe that calls for 5-7 lb of pork shoulder to make pulled pork sandwiches. About how much of that will be left over after trimming all the fat. Is it 1/2 lb per person enough? so a 7 lb pork shoulder could feed 12-14 people sound right?

Both the ideas are good, and easier and tatsier than burgers and dogs. Also, see the baked potato bar and the sundae bar buttons on this site.

Yes, a 7 pound well trimmed bone in shoulder roast is just about right for 12-14 people for sandwiches.
